罰則や面倒から免れる   

どんなに立派な人であっても、面倒なことは避けて通りたいものです。そうした面倒を避ける・免れるという行為にぴったりな表現が get away with です。with のあとに、「バレたり罰されたりすることなく貫きたい行為」を(動)名詞の形で置くのが一般的です。
